LedgerWitness

A vendor-neutral evidence and measurement layer that defines transaction-level automation states, reconciles agent and accounting-system events, preserves corrections and human touchpoints, and produces signed metric packets for management or qualified assurance review.

The case

The research confirms an actively funded autonomous-accounting category, several adjacent audit-trail and testing products, a production signing ecosystem, and a tamper-evident database option. It did not find the proposed independent layer between accounting-agent vendors and buyers. The database option uses a source-available license whose managed-service terms require validation. No structural incumbent copying cost is evidenced.

LedgerWitness cannot declare itself independent, neutral, an auditor, an attestation provider, or acceptable to a professional oversight regime by product design. Independence, competence, scope, criteria, evidence, materiality, procedures, and opinion belong to an authorized qualified practitioner under the applicable engagement. A cryptographic signature establishes integrity and signer attribution for bytes; it does not prove source truth, completeness, accounting correctness, zero-touch operation, internal-control effectiveness, or audit sufficiency.

The product's valid role is measurement preparation. Buyers and vendors agree a versioned state taxonomy and population boundary; collectors retain source events; deterministic rules classify candidate touchpoints; exceptions and conflicts stay visible; management approves representations; and qualified reviewers can reproduce or challenge the packet.

Who pays — and why

Controllers, finance-transformation leaders, procurement teams, accounting-agent vendors, internal audit teams, and assurance practitioners that need reproducible automation evidence.

What it unlocks
A metric contract with entity, process, system, transaction population, period, source hierarchy, inclusion and exclusion, automation states, human-touch definition, exception policy, materiality context, owner, reviewer, version, and approval
An event envelope with source system, transaction, actor type, authenticated identity, timestamp and clock quality, action, before and after references, agent run, human interaction, correction, override, approval, destination acknowledgment, readback, and lineage
A classification ledger separating observed event, normalized event, deterministic rule result, conflict, missing evidence, excluded item, candidate state, reviewer disposition, supersession, and no invisible correction assumption
A signed metric packet with population hash, source manifest, rule version, counts, denominators, exceptions, limitations, reconciliations, management representation, reviewer notes, signature verification, export, and reproducibility instructions

8
Temporal window

Autonomous accounting investment makes measurable automation claims more commercially important now.

8
Buyer persona

Controllers, finance transformation, procurement, vendors, internal audit, and assurance teams have accountable uses.

5
Convergence

Several evidence and audit-adjacent products plus a funded accounting-agent category support the need without proving an intermediary standard.

Why it scored well

The finance buyer, growing agent category, multiple adjacent evidence products, explicit state contract, source-event reconciliation, and signed reproducible packets create a concrete trust wedge.

What's holding it back

Independence and assurance cannot be manufactured, interfaces may omit human work, vendor incentives conflict, accounting populations are complex, and incumbents have no proven structural barrier.
