Base64 encode and decode. Text, files, done.
Convert UTF-8 text and files, turn images into data URIs and use the URL-safe alphabet. Recognize decoded JSON or a JWT — free, no sign-up.
Loading the tool…
Encoding is not encryption. Files stay local. A recognized JWT is not automatically transferred to another page.
How to use
- Paste text or Base64, or select a local file up to 5 MB for encoding.
- Choose URL-safe encoding if needed. Image files can use a standard Base64 data URI. Select Encode Base64 or Decode Base64.
- Copy the output or download the original decoded bytes. Use the JWT decoder or JSON formatter when the tool recognizes those formats.

Frequently asked questions
Is this free, and do I need an account?
It is free, no sign-up. Tool processing happens locally in your browser. Inputs and outputs are not uploaded to a processing API. Usage events contain only the tool name and action.
Does Base64 encrypt data?
No. It is reversible encoding, not encryption. Anyone who has the encoded text can decode it. Never treat an encoded password, key or token as protected.
What is URL-safe Base64?
It replaces + and / with - and _ and omits trailing padding in this tool. The decoder accepts standard or URL-safe input, with or without valid padding, and rejects invalid or noncanonical encodings.
Can I encode images and other files?
Yes, up to 5 MB. Image files can become data:type/subtype;base64,… strings. Data URIs use standard Base64; URL-safe encoding is intended for raw payloads. Binary decoded output downloads without converting it to text.
Does Unicode text round-trip correctly?
Yes. Text uses UTF-8 before Base64 encoding, so accented characters and emoji round-trip. Invalid UTF-8 is treated as binary and remains available as a file.
Can I decode a JWT here?
A complete JWT has three separate URL-safe segments. The tool recognizes it and links to the dedicated JWT decoder, where you can inspect claims without verifying the signature. Use test tokens only and never paste a service_role token.
