The case

Importing ecommerce merchants may want to understand which product representations correlate with returns and how duty treatment changes the cost of those returns. Returnframe proposes a per-SKU evidence trail from the listing version shown at purchase to return reason, optional return media and current trade inputs. The supplied research confirms a return platform with reason analytics, another documented returns interface and public tariff-data sources. It found no product combining listing imagery, return observations and duty weighting. That validates the technical shape, not causal attribution or guaranteed non-recoverable duty.

Return reasons are buyer assertions or forced-choice codes, not ground truth. Listing imagery may have changed after purchase; a customer may have seen a marketplace crop, localized variant or cached page. Return photos can contain people, homes and personal data and may not be authorized for model processing. A visual difference can be caused by lighting, display, size, manufacturing variance, damage, expectation or unrelated preference. Correlation between image features and returns does not prove the image caused the decision.

Duty treatment depends on current classification, origin, entry, importer, valuation, trade program, return path, destruction, re-export, drawback eligibility and documentation. A tariff lookup is not a customs determination, and duty is not always non-recoverable. Purchase event, listing snapshot, SKU and variant, customer return assertion, return media, inspection finding, representation-gap candidate, analyst finding, classification source, duty observation, qualified customs determination, exposure estimate, listing change, experiment and later return outcome remain separate. The first release should replay one merchant's historical SKU set and call results hypotheses, not causal losses.

Who pays — and why

An ecommerce merchandising, returns or finance lead at an importing small business with enough per-SKU return volume to compare listing versions and duty treatment.

What it unlocks
A purchase-time listing archive preserving channel, locale, SKU, variant, imagery, copy, crop, price, version, capture method and customer-visible uncertainty
A return evidence ledger separating customer reason, optional media consent, inspection finding, product condition, logistics path, analyst review and unresolved alternatives
A duty worksheet linking current primary tariff source, classification hypothesis, origin, entry facts, return disposition, drawback evidence, qualified determination and exposure range
How Genesis scored it
6.60across seven criteria
tension 6temporal 8blindspot 6buyer 6leverage 6convergence 5why-not 8
8
Temporal window

The supplied tariff signal and rapid growth of generated product imagery create a current validation window, subject to current trade authority.

8
Why nobody did it

Purchase-time representation history, sparse return observations and case-specific customs treatment explain why reason-code dashboards do not answer the question.

5
Convergence

Three cross-references and no inbound links leave convergence modest despite two direct connections.

Why it scored well

The input names an importing merchant workflow, confirms returns and tariff-data interfaces, and proposes a longitudinal listing archive plus duty-aware review absent from compared products.

What's holding it back

Causal attribution is unsupported, tariff facts can change, duty recoverability is case-specific, buyer budget is incomplete and media review may add operational cost.
